Is Mail Order Eco Friendly?

Monday Feb 26, 2007

An interesting GHG emissions analysis on the current Netflix model of acquiring a movie versus driving to your local movie rental yourself.  There are so many different analyses like these that should all be tracked somewhere.

640 tons of CO2 emissions versus 354,000,000?

If accurate, or even slightly accurate, that's a huge difference.

What is more eco-friendly that that? My hunch:  Movie downloads services, maybe the "newly legit" BitTorrent service, or stuff like HBO on demand.

Hi, Aaron. I, as well as my Human Handler (and typist), are not too familiar with blogs. Although we love to watch movies as well, we came across your interesting comments on NetFlix and wanted to inject an interesting alternative.

How about playing an eco-friendly board game with friends and family instead of watching a DVD? A NetFlix customer knows they have access to the same quality films but with their more environmentally responsible choice, or they would probably opt to visit a rental store. This is also an important consideration with board games -- you still would want a fun game that you would want to play repeatedly.

You can erase the upcoming company name if you'd like, but let me mention that I will earn some imaginary fruit as a reward if my handler's company, Kvale Good Natured Games LLC, is mentioned in your blog. I like that these Kvale games bring the tribe together for social fun.

They are a new small company with big dreams and principles, and I am treated actually quite well. They have incorporated me into their logo, so they must like me, too.

Happy bananas to you! Henry
