I'm going to Santiago tomorrow morning! I will give my first presentation in english on Wednesday, to students from the U.S. who are coming to Chile as part of an MBA they are doing. They're from the San Jose State University and want to know what Sun is doing in Chile and how the office works here. I'm also going to talk about the Sun Academic Initiative and OSUM of course, since that's what I know the most.

I'm excited. Next day (Thursday) i'm going to take an exam to get Solaris certified. I hope all goes well these days. I'm coming back to Concepción Thursday night. Then I'm leaving to Santiago again on Saturday morning, after that I'll take off to San Francisco at night for the JavaOne Conference :). I guess I'll talk more about that on the next post.

Have a great day.

The Sun Academic Initiative is gaining a lot of momentum here in Concepción, Chile. 2 weeks ago I did a presentation about SAI and the Open Source University Meetup (OSUM) at Andrés Bello University for first year students of computer engineering, and I'm very happy becase that event appeared on 2 local newspapers and 1 very important website about students and universities.

La Cronica and Diario de Concepción newspapers talked about what Sun Microsystems is doing in the universities, particularly at Andres Bello University. The website Universia did the same thing, here's the link. The pictures correspond to La Cronica (on the right) and Diario de Concepción (on the left) newspapers.

I think this is great because a lot of readers, regular computer users, (not only computer science students or teachers) are getting to know Sun Microsystems and its Academic Initiative here in Concepción and Chile.

Chile OpenSolaris User Group (CLOSUG) is the first chilean community of users and enthusiasts of OpenSolaris. We look for OpenSolaris adoption in personal computers and companies. We work in different cities, together with Open Source organizations in order to participate in events, tech talks, conferences and workshops that boost OpenSolaris adoption and development.

We colaborate with Linux user groups and free software communities, so everyone is invited to join and participate. It doesn't matter how much you know about computers nor your skills with them, you just have to be interested in learning. One of the main goals we have is to show the OpenSolaris features that the everyday user can take advantage of.

Yesterday I decided to write this blog in 2 languages, english and spanish. Why? Because I think this is the best way to reach a lot more people on the planet. After all, that's the idea of blogging right? To get as many people as possible to read what you're saying.

English is not my native language, so I will probably make mistakes, but I hope they won't be too many and if you see something wrong, feel free to correct me.

As Pietro Zuco said in this blog post, having a blog written in 2 languages is not about translating the post exactly from spanish to english or vice versa, like a dictionary or an automatic translator, but instead, it's about expressing the same idea of the original post.

Wish me luck!
