About Eric
 | Eric Armstrong has been programming since before there were personal computers. He has worked as an administrator, systems architect, programmer, writer, and technical marketing specialist. In college, his interests centered on general systems theory, philosophy, political theory, psychology, and abstract math. He is currently a Document Systems Architect at Sun Microsystems, where he is using every single skill acquired in his previous incarnations. As a programmer, Eric has done A/I programming, real time programming, and a ton of shell script hacking. He has written programming libraries, GUI apps, commercial systems, and once extensively refactored a telephony system. As a writer, he's written books and a raft of articles on programming, as well as fitness and nutrition. In his personal life, Eric has been a martial arts practitioner and an Irish dancer. He enjoys running, golf, and outings with trekking poles. He plays 20 musical instruments--all of them badly--but has gotten to the point that he can play a passable version of a few Irish and Greek tunes on his mandolin. It turns out that when a thoughtful, intelligent person such as yourself is laboring over a masterpiece of prose that will soon become a comment, sufficient time can elapse that the post-enabling math question expires! When that happens, a new math question is presented. (The messaging is being modified to make the situation more transparent, so people know to answer the new question.)
