So second day in Campus Party and we've just begun our activities with a presentation about Sun SPOT (Sun Small Programmable Object Technology) by Tom Mix.
Let's check a little bit about it. Sun SPOT is a mote (electronic device) created by Sun Microsystems, with a JVM (Java Virtual Machine) embedded. This device has many sensors such as temperature, light, 3-axis accelerometer and wireless. You can use this for many things as you can imagine, control robots, provide environmental status (using temperature and light sensors) whatever, just imagine! and Sun SPOTs are able to connect to each other. The most important thing is each code line is written in Java.
Many people attended the presentation, Tom talked about features, resources and applications of Sun Spot, he also introduced the new Sun's students social network called OSUM (Open Source University Meet up) and the community created for Campus Party 2009.
It was great, if you want more, then check the activities schedule to see when will be presented and join us or take a look in our community at osum.sun.com Campus Party 2009.
Another Campus Party
began and I still remember the last one 1 year ago. You need to get
into the spirit of a huge people accessing Internet 24 hours and
sharing all sort of knowledge. Remember, this event is one of kind:
People actually camping in the event and they will head back home next
Sunday. Thiago Gonzaga create a short blog just to give you an idea of what I am talking about it.
The event began and all OpenSolaris enthusiast from all over Brazil start to gather and make an official first Brazilian OpenSolaris Annual Meeting, gathering the leaders from some different places in the Country.

Sady Jacques (left) and Vitorio Sassi (right) (OpenSolaris Leader from Porto Alegre/RS)
Vitório started discussing about the lessons learned and he wanted to shared all the with everyone. Porto Alegre has reputation of having several open source communities and the Government stated a law, which declared that all software should be open source if used inside the south Government of Rio Grande do Sul.
Sady Jacques is one of key person in the open source community and he is one of the organiziers of FISL (International Forum of Free Software), which it will be held this year from June the 24th till the 27th.

Ronaldo Prass (left) is one of the fews in the Community who gives talks about GlassFish under OpenSolaris (using Zones)
Sady
also shared his views in how the Community should function and gave
alot of ideas in how the OpenSolaris community can grow.

Thiago Gonzaga is the leader of OpenSolaris from the Northwest

Ricardo Chikasawa is brillant Campus Ambassador and hears all the good tips about how a community should function

All
the sudden, some music band start playing making a HUGE noise... but
once the OpenSolaris community started talking, nothing can shut them
up. The solution was very simple: Let's talk louder so our voice can be
hear everywhere !!!!

Bruno
Souza is currently an Open Source Community Director and has a great
reputation about Communities in Brazil. He shares his ideas and
experiences of what makes a good and a strong community.

Tom Mix (right) is sharing his experience about starting an OpenSolaris User Group in Sao Paulo

Porto Alegre lies in south state of Rio Grande do Sul from Brazil and host one of the biggest (not to mention mostly entusiast) open source communities. The state government has declared an state law, stating that all software in the government should be open source. This gave a huge boom in the state and now, they host the Internal Forum of Free Sofware (aka FISL), which it will happen this year from June 24th till the 27th.
