Dual-boot laptop with Windows, Linux and OpenOffice.org sold in France
According to this French article, HP starts to sell a dual-boot laptop with Windows XP and Mandrakelinux pre-installed. OpenOffice.org is also included in the bundle. This should give the OpenOffice.org market share another boost.

Anyway, enterprise and government users should also check out StarOffice 8 and the Java Desktop System. Both products come with a configuration management tool, so that administrators don't have to run from desk to desk anymore. For StarOffice also (macro) migration tools are under development.

My first day "real" day in OpenSolaris land
Today was my first "real" day in OpenSolaris land. Since I'm working on the OpenOffice.org project, I requested an OpenSolaris pilot project account a few weeks ago in order to share my experiences and to learn from their experiences. However, I never found the time to really dig deeper into the project. OpenOffice.org and StarOffice just kept me busy.

Today I poked around a bit on the OpenSolaris project website and read different mailing list postings. Interestingly OpenSolaris already has similar problems to the ones OpenOffice.org faced in it's early days. Some lists see already so much traffic, that they need to be split up by topic/purpose. I guess this is a good sign.

Article recommends OpenOffice.org and StarOffice to fix Word documents
Unfortunately the article is in German, but it recommends OpenOffice.org and StarOffice to fix broken Word documents. Maybe this is a feature we should add to our datasheets!?
