"Sun plans to make all its software free"
I just found this: "Sun Microsystems president and COO Jonathan Schwartz on Thursday cited the company's plans to eventually offer all of its software for free as a way to build communities around its technologies."

TYPO3 now indexes OpenOffice.org Documents
"The powerful search engine now produces statistics about the terms entered. Editors can use this information to tailor their site to their visitors. The search engine also indexes new types of data, such as Microsoft Excel tables, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and OpenOffice.org documents."

51,000 CD's with OpenOffice.org distributed
"The Auvergne region (center of France) will distribute a CD containing several Open Source softwares to its students, OOo is on the CD with its documentation. This will be 51 000 cds distributed with note-books at schools in september 2005."

Sun 'Open-Sources' Its Authentication Technology
"Sun also announced it has created an OpenSSO community Web site. OpenSSO is designed to provide developers with project information and resources to foster discussion and facilitate participation in the community, including: roadmaps, FAQs, documentation, tutorials, sample code and mailing lists.

Initial source code will be available beginning in the fourth quarter of 2005, with full release of OpenSSO in spring 2006 under the under the Open Source Initiative-approved Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL). Sun also uses the CDDL license for its OpenSolaris project."

Vienna adopts OpenOffice.org
"The Viennese city councilor Rudi Schicker today presented Wienux, the Linux variant designed for use by the city authorities. Today within the framework of an information event employees of the municipal administration, in line with the policy according to which they are "each free to decide" which operating system on offer they want to use, were able to try out and find out about Wienux and OpenOffice."
