Microsoft does not wait for ECMA approval
I just read "Microsoft Releases Office 2007 To Manufacturing". I think this very interesting, because Microsoft does not wait for the outcome of the ECMA meeting on December 7/8. Does Microsoft already know exactly what will be decided in that meeting?

I also don't expect any surprises from the ECMA meeting, but from a standardization process point of view, calling Office 2007 final even before ECMA has officially approved the Microsoft file format looks very odd to me. Sure, Microsoft could plan updates/patches to Office 2007 in case ECMA had any significant comments (which, I know as well, will most likely not be the case), but why would Microsoft release a version to manufacturing just a few weeks before the format gets approved by ECMA, if they see any chance that the format could not be approved as defined in the final draft?

Even though Microsoft most likely will be right that ECMA will not require any changes to the final draft of the specification, it still looks very odd to me to call Office 2007 final before the new file format has been officially approved. Maybe Microsoft knows more than the rest of the world?!
