Excitement about Solaris
Today was the first day of the CeBIT fair. I don't know if you have ever been to CeBIT, but it is the largest computer show in the world. Everthing containing a chip or running on a chip is shown there: notebooks, high-end servers, PDA's, cell phones, digital cameras, printers, monitors, software, etc.

Here is a picture of the two-story Sun booth (after the show!!!):

I'm doing booth duty for StarOffice and OpenOffice.org, but I was surprised how many people asked for a copy of Solaris. People seem to be really excited about the OS. I also took a DVD home in order to install the latest version on one of my home computers.

At my pod both existing StarOffice users (of which there are many in Germany) and people new to StarOffice were pretty excited about the new features in StarOffice 8 and the different 3rd party add-ons that we are demoing. For example, we are showing a statistical tool and a real-time engine for financial data feeds.

One person was surprised how powerful the database tool already is. Another person was positively shocked that we support XForms and also support form controls in our PDF export. It seems that we are on the right track with the product.
