Just switch! - My very personal highlight in the StarOffice 8 office suite
As you most likely will have noticed, I like collecting quotes from online magazines. For example, I'm involved in two newsletters, an internal one and the OpenOffice.org Newsletter. I started the latest "flavor" of the OpenOffice.org Newsletter about two years ago, but today one volunteer from the OpenOffice.org community is doing most of the hard work. Deepankar Datta digs out all the news about OpenOffice.org and posts them to the marketing project's newsletter mailing list. You rock, Deepankar!

Today I discovered a new feature in StarOffice 8 which I desperately have been waiting for. In StarOffice 8 it is possible to call the "Paste Special" feature via a simple shortcut. Just in case, you don't know what the "Paste Special" feature is useful for, here is a screen shot of a document into which I imported the content of an HTML web page:

Since for my purposes I don't want to take over the original formatting, I choose the "Paste Special" feature. In StarOffice 8 it now can be called via "SHIFT + CTRL + V", which brings up the following dialog:

The "Paste Special" feature allows inserting just the content:

Nevertheless, the "Paste Special" feature is still available via the menu:

Although this shortcut is a very simple change, it improves my productivity a lot. Therefore, it's my very personal highlight in StarOffice 8.

pffffff I'm waiting for YEARS for this kind of shortcut: I collect numerous ms-word documents to make only one, with a minimum re-styling for usability/readilibility. And I have 2 big problems with my work Open Office under Windows: 1 - Big freeze with some copy/paste operations 2 - shortcut for special pasting in simple text aho yes... next one would be better reactivity waith very big (600 A4 pages) inserting. But the shortkey will be... pffff... very good news
