Ministry of Justice of Finland deploying OpenOffice.org Great news! According to a message on the OpenOffice.org marketing project mailing list the Ministry of Justice of Finland is deploying OpenOffice.org to 10,000 Windows workstations. I don't speak the language, but according to the email more information can be found here, here, here, and here.

In case there is interest in this news, here's a little summary of the link contents - all these reports are public documents and free to copy and redistribute.
The first link points to a study of cost and compatibility outcomes of different combinations of office suite deployment profiles (MSOffice / SmartSuite / OOo) and recommendations for deployment for years 2007-2011. The study was conducted 2003-2005, and the initial situation was 70% SmartSuite / 30% MSOffice. The recommended deployment was 85% OpenOffice and 15% MSOffice, where the latter was the estimated minimum required to maintain the binary compatibility needed for the few MSAccess -based solutions and some interdepartmental needs.
The second one is the final report from the ten month pilot program where more than 150 persons from the offices of the Ministry of Justice installed and used the OpenOffice.org suite to establish whether the level of functionality and compatibility is sufficient for the actual usage as well as the level of training needed for deployment and usage. The other two links are also results of this pilot program.
The third link points to installation manual covering the basic installation, user settings, selection of the Swedish language UI (Finland is officially bilingual), spell checker and hyphenation modules, template design and deployment...
The fourth link points to a 252 page QandA manual based on the experiences from the pilot program and augmented to cover subjects like tables in text editing, fields in document templates and MSOffice document conversions.
All in all, not a bad set of documents.
