"The Maharashtra government of India is increasingly opts for open-source software over licenced ones provided by technology giants like Microsoft.

In the past few months, OpenOffice, a free downloadable package of commonly-used applications like spreadsheets, word processing and email, has become the official choice for thousands of desktops across the state, and is expected to save the exchequer about Rs 90 crore in licence fees."

I wonder why Sun is not there with JDS linux or Free Solaris 10 with JDS 3. If the Maharashtra Govt can use Red Hat desktops, why not solaris/jds ? I think Sun needs to get into the act faster. The faster Sun closes the loop on such opportunities, the faster it will have shareholders enjoy returns
