People love the cool design
Booth duty at CeBIT was very interesting today. Although I'm officially assigned to one of the two StarOffice/OpenOffice.org pods, I spent most of my time presenting the new Sun Ray 170 to all kinds of customers. Everybody loves the slick design!

I remember, about four years ago many people liked the Sun Ray concept, but did not really want to deploy it. Now everything seems to have changed. People seem to be more open to using GNOME, StarOffice, Mozilla (including Firefox and Thunderbird), Evolution, etc. In addition, there are multiple options to run Windows applications on or from a Linux or Solaris box. Apparently the time has come where people realize that a sufficient number of alternative desktop applications are available and that other platforms can provide higher levels of security, manageability and productivity.

Although it is not a new feature in Sun Ray, people still love the smart card based session mobility. There is also a lot of interest for the new broadband capabilities in the Sun Ray Server Software 3.0. It was and still is a very cool product!
