Tuesday August 01, 2006 Since it is an OEM product only, it will be packaged with Windows Storage Server R2 from Microsoft's channel partners to provide block and file storage for SMB (small and midsize businesses) and midrange customers as a hybrid device.
Now contrast this with the near silent announcement of iSCSI target driver integration into build 44 of the ON consolidation of OpenSolaris. Now add to that the fact that iSCSI initiator AND target solutions are completely free in Solaris. Consider also that you can use ZFS to sore the target "nodes" and take some beneift from ZFS's great data integrity story even if you are running NTFS as the filesystem on the initiator side. All this on a Thumper (aka Sun Fire X4500) too!
So why would anyone want to pay to OEM an iSCSI target solution for Windows ? ( Aug 01 2006, 02:31:08 AM BST ) Permalink Comments [2]
