MySQL 4.0 EOL

4.0 End of life

Extended support for MySQL 4.0 is about to be discontinued.

According to MySQL Lifecycle policy, MySQL 4.0 is now in extended support, meaning that only security and extremely severe bug fixes were applied to this release. The present condition ends on December 31, 2008. Then, MySQL 4.0 will join 3.23 in the list of unsupported versions.

The next version to meet the same fate will be 4.1, exactly one year later.

Comments:

I know it's art, but it's freaky when that kind of stuff pops up on PlanetMYSQL. My brain has issues with it, having seen some real-world images that are not entirely dissimilar.

Hi Guiseppe,

Thanks for the post, which made me re-visit the Lifecycle Policy. Out of curiosity: When was it decided to extend the "Active Support Ends" date for MySQL 5.0, initially slated for EOY 2008? I can't recall having seen an announcement of this.

@Carsten,
It was announced in the web site.

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks for the URL. A very quiet announcement, I must say .. it doesn't even appear on http://mysql.com/news-and-events/

Sorry about the misspelling; I noticed the moment I pushed the "Post" button...
