Order in Fritalian

Tuesday Mar 04, 2008

So I just have to get this off my chest: Attention Dunkin' Donuts!!! Latte is an Italian word, so telling people they can "Order in English, not Fritalian" is just silly. Latte is Italian, not English.

There, I said it.

"Latte" in Italian just means "milk", which is why you'll get a glass of milk if you order a latte in Italy. "Latte" in English, according to a number of online dictionaries, means "hot espresso with steamed milk". English re-appropriates plenty of words like this from other languages.

So unless you're trying to order a plain glass of milk, the "latte" you're using is the English one, not Italian.
