Who am I?
A terrific mystery novel with a software slant I love mystery stories, but I don't have much time to read them. Luckily, I made some time last week to read a suspense novel that I picked up at a used book sale. It was terrific, by an author I hadn't known before, Rick Riordan. I am hooked! I'm going to read this guy's whole output. The book is The Devil Went Down to Austin, and the hero is a San Antonio private eye with a Ph.D. When his brother, a software developer, is accused of murdering his partner in an Austin startup, he swings into action to find the real killer. Computer viruses, a backdoor in the code, and email spoofing all play roles in the intricate plot. There is a wonderful panoply of Texas characters -- an evil investment banker, a sinister oil man, a gorgeous lawyer, a savvy Chicano cop, bikers, Parrotheads, the works. There are even cameo appearances by Kinky Friedman and Jimmy Buffet. I've never been to Austin, but the book makes it sound like a terrific place, filled with great music, great food and interesting people. I wonder if I can get Sun to send me on a visit to the Identity Management group? Posted by davidleetodd ( Jun 06 2006, 06:11:50 AM PDT ) PermalinkComments:
