The ultimate keyboard

A Russian design company is working on what looks like to be the ultimate keyboard... if it ever reaches the market! They are using display embedded in keys (will probably be based on OLED display). Each display keys can then be customized (specific locale, animation, custom key, etc). They have even introduced the concept of key saver (a key's screen saver!).
Their plans are still vague, it might be released in 2006 and should cost less than a high-end mobile phone. So if this is not a hoax, that keyboard would be the definitive cure for my keyboard madness! Tags: ( juil. 17 2005, 04:00:27 AM PDT ) Permalink Comments [3]

Looks good. But I had that same idea (with normal LEDs though) back in 87-88 or so.

I'll post my original drawings at some stage. Thing is I worked for a research institute at the time and basicially if you get an idea it is theirs, not yours. We did a patent search, no "previous art" was found - but the institute did not want to proceed.

The drawings were for both one-in-all remote controls (widespread now) and a keyboard like this (for solving language settings) ...

I've my original drawings for the all-in-one remote and a led-keyboard from 1988.

A little bit bitter I could not proceed with them both back in 88, but such is life ...

The real inventor of the Optimus Keyboard concept is an American inventor named Elkin Acevedo who invented and patented the Display Keyboard in 1999. His patent number is 5,818,361. This is exactly the same concept as the newer Russian Optimus Keyboard. We don't know when this product will be in the marketplace because Acevedo is working behind the scenes.
