Gross

Bufo marinas

The photo hunt theme this week is "gross" and I had not come up with any good ideas for the theme. Then I came upon this big fellow today. I believe he is a Cane Toad, also known as Marine Toad. In Hawaii the toad is called "Poloka." These toads have toxic secretions that will ooze from glands on their neck if they feel threatened. About 50 dogs a year die from mouthing the toad. It is rumored that secretions are hallucinogenic, but you might end up with tongue fungus.

Comments:

yes Cane toads - gross. In Queensland, Australia we have them all through the summer months. They are disgusting and a real pest. Originally introduced to keep cane beetles in check, they have now become a pest themselves. A favourite past time (not mine) of some is to go cane toad hunting of a night and using golf clubs, cricket bats etc hit the cane toads for a six. I of course do not endorse this, but like I said they are a pest. The love cat food and sit in the cats bowls if there is tin food in them. So gross, gross and triple gross.
