Rare Bird

Nenes

The nene (pronounced nay-nay), which is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, is on the Fedreal Endangered Species List. In the mid 1940s only 50 birds were known to exist in the Hawaii Island. By 2002, their numbers had increased to 400.

A beautiful bird, I'm glad their numbers are increasing. Happy weekend.

A rare bird in more ways than one, it is very nice that the numbers are starting to come back. Great choice for the theme.

Beautiful birds. I sure am glad they are growing in numbers. You are so fortunate to have been able to photograph these birds. What size lens did you use to get so close? Everyone is invited to my blog to see my "rare" post. Hope to see you there.

Those are beautiful birds! So unusually colored. I am so glad they are increasing. We have done enough damage to this earth.

I thought those things only existed in the Smithsonian now. I remember watching something on breeding attempts but the gene pool was too shallow to succeed. Great photo - here's my photo hunt post.
