Some great behind the scenes pics of space shuttle processing, rarely seen by the general public. Worth at least a quick glance through.

Oh where are you driver
[General] / Permalink / 2008-01-22 10:42:32.0 / Comments [1]

The wonders of community will never cease, so I fall back on that now to aid in where my attempts have failed. Here is it, I am searching for a print driver for a Kyocera Mita C2230 printer for Mac. I know someone has the correct setup or connection to get me printing to the KM-C2230 with full color and page support so bring it on community. I shall be sure to update with working results when I get them.

google reader, who changed it
[General] / Permalink / 2008-01-09 10:22:45.0 / Comments [1]

So I had been using bloglines for my rss aggregation for some time, I recently switched to trying out google reader and was loving it. Then yesterday something changed.... the pages are now displaying differently and I can't keep the subscriptions side panel up... who changed it? Change it back or at least leave me the option to have it on or off.

For what it's worth

Update: Okay, so someone pointed out to me the error of my browsing... there is a subtle way to hide the side panel and it was pointed out to me where I hid it and how to un-hide it. Sorry for the rant.

Happy Pilgrim
[General] / Permalink / 2007-11-21 08:03:59.0 /

So tomorrow in the United States is Thanksgiving. Our family will be preparing something along the lines of the standard dinner... but I look more forward to the leftovers. I look forward to making what I call the Happy Pilgrim. What? That is right, I make a sandwich that we call the Happy Pilgrim, so what is it? For me it starts with two slices of good hearty wheat bread, lettuce, sliced roasted left over turkey, stuffing, gravy and cranberry relish. Oh, place that all together in a sandwich and it is like a meal in one. I was introduced to something similar from a sub sandwich shop while I was helping a friend move in Boston. Skip the meal and make me a Happy Pilgrim and I am one happy pilgrim. Try one this year and let me know what you think.

While we are preparing for Thanksgiving this year we are also in waiting... our second child is due any day to the big meal may get placed on hold for a few days.

woolly bear
[General] / Permalink / 2007-09-26 12:04:04.0 /

Recently, our little girl check out What's That Sound, Woolly Bear from the library. We read it almost every day... if not several times a day. A couple of days before we took it back to the library we noticed a woolly bear in out back yard and now a second one has shown up. I am debating on if we should bring them in for the winter so that in the spring she can watch them spin their cocoons and turn into tiger moths. There is a lot of great information on the web on raising them it is just if we put the effort in for the winter, those little guys lead a harsh life cycle.

Be Smart Parents
[General] / Permalink / 2007-09-13 07:05:35.0 /

Another extremely sad story about a small child (baby in this case) being mauled by a dog. This one happened to be a rottweiler but almost any dog or animal can have this effect. I am not in any way advocating for no pets, I am just stating that parents need to be smart and diligent about pets and small children.

We have a now five year old yellow lab and she is the calmest little one that I know. When our daughter (now two) was smaller and even now we are very aware of if she and the dog are alone. There have been a couple of times that our daughter is not doing anything to provoke the dog and all of the sudden the dog either starts barking (very rare) or just gets over excited about a situation and someone (an adult) needs to step in and separate the dog form the situation. As much as people try to domesticate animals like dogs, they are still animals and need supervision over those types of interactions.

Bottom line to parents, be smart and keep children and pets supervised at all times.

35 mph or 25 mph
[General] / Permalink / 2007-09-05 06:16:01.0 / Comments [2]

To the crazy / concerned mother how graciously honked at me this morning and then spelled out two five with finger gestures... I know that the speed limit on that stretch of road reduces to 25 mph during school hours and when the lights are flashing... but if you would have been paying attention as well it was not yet school hours, the lights were not on flash yet and there were no kids around. Trust me, I am just as concerned and get irritated with higher than posted speeds. I am the "crotchety" old guy that will yell at cars wizzing down a residential section as well above posted speed limits.

Beta Bloglines
[General] / Permalink / 2007-09-04 05:33:27.0 /

So if you are like me and use an aggregator for your RSS feeds then this might be for you. Specifically if you are using Bloglines and using the Mac notification widget. I started to view Βloglines Βeta but the widget is set to the main site... simple fix if you don't mind a one line fix to some javascript. Find the home of your Bloglines widget either in your home directory under /Users/{shortname}/Library/Widget or /Library/Widgets . Either way, find the widget, control click or right click on it and select show package content. The file bloglines.js is the file to be edited. Simple update the variable bloglinesURL to be http://beta.bloglines.com instead of http://bloglines.com/myblogs . Now go into your dashboard, close and reopen the Bloglines widget and you are all set.

I can't say that I use Flickr a ton but I upload some to it. I don't think I stopped to look at the front page long enough before to see but just today the upload rate was between 2500 to 3000 picture per minute being added. That just blew my mind. I don't know how many users they have but that rate was crazy to me.

Where did the technology go?
[General] / Permalink / 2007-08-30 05:44:15.0 / Comments [1]

While doing some searching for some more information on my upcoming backpacking trip to North Manitou Island, I came across a very interesting site that talks about and shows off some technology that time has sorta forgotten about or left behind. The Forgotten Technology site has some good information on using simple techniques to make technology work for you. Comes down to the old saying, work smarter and not harder.

What lunar eclipse
[General] / Permalink / 2007-08-28 11:15:06.0 /

So yes, there appears to have been a lunar eclipse last night... I was out driving this morning at 5 am and noticed that I could only see half of the moon and it was gorgeous. I thought to myself well it is just that time in the moon cycle but is did have this extra shadowing effect. I witnessed the eclipse and did not even realize that I was.
