Wasting time with blogs.sun.com and ScribeFire

Tuesday Jun 26, 2007

This was going to be just a test post to confirm ScribeFire works; I'd used the on-line editor up 'til now, but losing a half-hour of work on my last posting the other day when blogs.sun.com decided to flake out and reject my saving of the post convinced me that I needed to use a real client.

Anyway, I also spent nearly a half hour getting the right settings for ScribeFire to work with blogs.sun.com's Roller services, since the references I turned up in the internal mail archives were wrong.  It turns out the correct answer is in an example in the Roller 3.1 User Guide, so I figured I might as well record them here so I and others will get it right in the future with a little less time wasted.

For ScribeFire 1.3.5, tell the account wizard:

  • blog url: http://blogs.sun.com/dminer
  • press Manually Configure
  • select Custom Blog
  • select MetaWeblog API
  • Server API URL: http://blogs.sun.com/roller-services/xmlrpc
  • provide username and password
It was the Server API URL which was the missing link, so to speak.  One more thing: you also have to login to blogs.sun.com and enable the "Enable Blogger and MetaWeblog APIs for your weblog" setting in the Preferences tab.
