I am immensely proud to work for Sun Microsystems-- in the good times and the bad, Sun people are real, creative, hardworking and honest. Yesterday, like many I felt the gravity of what we were losing, and tried to maintain a flexibility to be useful in our period of reconstruction and possibility creation.

Fear of failure, rejection, and guilt are counter productive and yet one can not pretend they are not there, and to ignore balance the wisdom and knowlege of what we can change, and summon the resources to change it, is our professional challenge.

What can we do to face our performance and career options with integrity, honesty, and constructive vision? I choose to focus on what I can do to extend productivity, the values, and choices as part of the collective "whole".. I am responsible for the brand I brought with me when I came to Sun, what I do whilst I am hear, and what will go WITH me when I leave it's doors.

May we remember that whether at Sun or beyond, we re OUR brand. Our attitude, outlook and communications stay open and realistic if we continue to see things as they really are- opportunities, possibilities, and liabilities. May we accept personal responsibility for our roles in influencing a positive outcome- for our careers and our companies.

All things happen for a reason, and we teach best what we most need to learn. I also accept responsibility for managing my happiness, sorrow and judgement of life's events as successes or failures, when perhaps they are only transactions on the radar screen of a long life of experience.
