I think it's time to dredge up Greg Papadopoulos insightful talk at Structure08 about the economics and fate of Cloud Computing. Afterall, it's a month old already, so is ripe for historic interpretation. With all of a month's worth of evolution and perspective, do you find his admonition segacious or mercenary? While this question of proprietary clouds lurked behind most of the Structure08 content, and it came to the surface whenever Joyent had something to say, it is Greg's talk that really throws down the gauntlet to our industry.
Are we going to fork over control again? And what matters more for control of your data? The ability to transfer it, or the ability to access it in the future? Are there any companies, other than your own, to whom you would give the keys to your data?
