The pictures look great! Looks like there are a lot of interests in Solaris in Dalian city!

The City of Dalian is uniquely attractive to those of us living in Hawaii because of the huge size of its Japanese-speaking population. One of my neighbors runs a call-center in Dalian to serve his clients living in Japan. Some of our local IP companies have thought about jointly doing Japanese software developments in Dalian.

This unique multi-lingual advantage is one of the reasons that the central government (of China) designs to make Dalian a major "software outsourcing center" (or the "Bangladesh of China") to serve the northeast Asia region. It is thus not surprising that there is a "Software College" (软件学院) in the "Dalian University of Foreign Languages" (大连外国语学). See:

Because of the similarly excellent multi-lingual capabilities of Solaris, I believe it will be very mutually beneficial for Dalian's city officials, professors, students, and entrepreneurs to be aware of the existence of this powerful, mature, extremely scalable, and open-sourced operating system. Hopefully, your two-day training session will be the incipient step of a subsequent process that will eventually make Dalian City a Solaris powerhouse.

I am sure you're aware that the OpenSolaris LiveCD is scheduled to come out next month. Perhaps we can take advantage of this occasion to start growing a grass-root movement among those aspiring students in Dalian. :-)

Hi Wayne, thank you so much for your great comments here.
You know quite well about Dalian:-). Did you live there before?

I gave several Indiana Preview 2 CDs to the students there and let them tell me their feeling after installation. After communication with more students, I felt the key issue is how to install Solairs on a general X86 laptop or desktop. It is really biggest obstacle to the students.

You are right, Indiana will official release soon, we may consider how to make full use of this occasion.

Anyway, your suggestions and inceptive Solaris promotion plan are highly appreciated! Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Next time I come to China, I'd really like to visit this city and explore the China-Japan connection. :)
