Chengdu is the last stop of the five live contests for the regional China ACM/ICPC in this year. Ricky Zhou, Edgar Liu and Fang Li continued to make the effort on the technical and arrangement support to make sure OpenSolaris runs well as the default contest platform. That is really cool to see hundreds students using OpenSolaris , NetBeans at the same time.
In summary, there are thounds and thounds students from hundres of different university to participate 2008 ACM/ICPC China Regional Contest, and 35 teams on behalf of China will go to compete the world wide final contest ,which is hosted by KTH Royal Institute of Technology on April, 2009. We are very pround of OpenSolaris can influence so many students in China, it is so cool!!
Check out these photoes to see how amazing it was!

可以在opensolaris.org上正式发布一个新的开源项目。
如果你收到这样的信息:“This project does not have any discussions yet”,那么你可以删除本讨论页面。
TML versus HTML: We have created a wiki-like markup language called TML (Tonic Markup Language) to use in page creation, for users that prefer not to use HTML. HTML is also available for users that want to do more advanced layout and design. Within community, a community leader can put any valid HTML into a page, hence the need to carefully limit those you select as community leaders.

The OpenSolaris developers summit was held in a beautiful city - Santa Cruz, May. 3-May. 4. I'm really lucky to be there because it's the first time that OpenSolaris community organized this event. This is just what I feel an open source community should be, to connect different people in an easy atmosphere, to learn more and to listen more from others. It was so excited.

Speaker : Aubrey Li
Topic : PowerTOP, and Power Management in OpenSolaris
*****************************************************************************
BIO :
Aubrey Li is a Senior software engineer at Open Source Technology Center of Intel.
He is working on the power management and optimization in OpenSolaris Kernel.
Before joining Intel, He was a Blackfin Linux maintainer at Analog Devices.
Abstract :
Less heat in the data center and longer battery time for laptops bring the more stringent requirement and more opportunities in the Solaris computer system about power management. Here, We'll see OpenSolaris community and Intel join together to work on CPU Power Saving. Nowadays, Intel's processors support different idle states, speedstep, dynamic acceleration, throttling control and so on in power management area. In the OpenSolaris Community, we are working with SUN engineers to support these features to achieve the best balance between performance and power in the Solaris kernel.
PowerTop is an observability tool that shows how effectively your Solaris system is taking advantage of the CPU's power management features. Now we are working on the device driver power management suggestions for PowerTOP. The presentation will show how to use this tool to observe the power management problem and opportunity in your system and applications, and you'll learn how to get involved with OpenSolaris telsa community project development.

Speaker : Jeff Cai
Topic : Solaris Power Management and GNOME Power Manager
*****************************************************************************
BIO : Cai Qingming (Jeff) graduated from Tsinghua University with a master degree in 1998 and joined Java Desktop department in Sun Microsystems in 2005. He has 10 years of experience in software development. As a software engineer in Sun, he is the technical lead of Evolution and GNOME Power Manager. He contributed often to open source projects like
GNOME and OpenSolaris.
Abstract :
Until now, Solaris doesn't have a convenient desktop application which enables users to manage and monitor power consumption and battery status. Especially for laptop users, they cannot manage their power consumption easily similar to what's been done in Windows and Linux. Though battery status applet has been put into Nevada, they still can't control what the system should do if the battery power is critically low or what should be done if they close the lid. In Solaris 10, we provide dtpower to help users to configure some power parameters. However, nowadays the features it provides are no longer sufficient. We often hear users complaining that Solaris consumes much more battery power than other OS'es, and it can't
suspend/hibernate. To offer an acceptable desktop for Solaris users, we must solve this problem.
In this talk, the presenter will introduce the power management solution in Solaris from desktop perspective. First, background information about power management and Solaris Power Management framework will be described. Then concepts related to power management will be introduced. Lastly he introduces what GNOME Power Manager is, its architecture and how it is ported to Solaris from Linux.

At April 8, I attended the beijing Linux user group activity. It was really different style with our BJOSUG. It was very open and casual, each speaker delivered special topic, most of the topics were totally nothing with the technology. We had a lot fun there.
