Hello friends I missed you all!

Hope you are all well rested and energized for a great 2009 full of promising developments and awesome new technology. Although our newest baby JavaFX is but a month old, we are hearing awesome feedback and seeing cool platforms being written in the Script language.

I want to point your attention to WidgetFX which is a desktop widget platform written in the new language. It can run widgets written in either JavaFX Script or Java and takes advantage of the latest features in the Java Consumer JRE (Java SE 6 update 10).

Here are some cool features:

  • open-source
  • support for multiple platforms (Vista, Linus, Mac OS)

Dude! Neil Young came to see us yesterday here at the Sun, Menlo Park campus to show us his coolest Linc Volt car that can run up to 100 miles a gallon. This cool Hot Rod runs has been re-engineered to run on biodiesel and electricity! Not just a cool car but a green car. Java technology is being used to monitor elements of the Linc's performance through installed sensors and we can see all the progress on an interactive web site and on a touch-screen panel inside the car.

Check out the cool pics of Neil Young and of course the "father of Java technology", James Gosling.

So why all the fuss? Well... the Link Volt is competing for the awesome Automotive X prize. According to the contest web site "The goal of the Progressive Automotive X PRIZE is to inspire a new generation of viable, super fuel-efficient vehicles that offer more consumer choices. Ten million dollars in prizes will be awarded to the teams that win a stage race for clean, production-capable vehicles that exceed 100 MPGe." So let's root for our pal Neil Young and the Linc Volt in their quest to win the X prize!!!
