I hadn't heard of a Potato Martini Bar until I was at the DEMO show. You start the self-service bar with a large martini glass.

You scoop in fresh mashed potatoes with parmesan butter. Then you can choose your topping - herb marinated mushrooms, sour cream (my two personal favorites), etc... In the end it looks like an ice cream sundae, but it is sublime - mixing comfort food with tasty new toppings.

Back to the conference... there are two more really cool applications I saw using Java technology. Nanolearning uses Java technology to allow their users to create little lessons. Say you want to teach a 4th grade class about parts of speech - nouns, adverbs, conjunctions, etc... You can create a free online mini-class using small games, slides, and animations to teach your subject using just basic computer skills. Check out the class on
herons. The same can be done for learning about Java classes.

One of my favorite Java mobile applications was introduced to me during JavaOne in May. Flurrymail finally makes email on my cell phone easy! I entered my phone number, email address and password into their website, and then I was ready to go. I'm now accessing my email from my very basic cell phone. These are the nice guys from Flurrymail at the conference.

Doesn't our java.com website look cool on this tiny Sony computer? I was impressed with this unit because of its size, game-like user interface (you use your thumbs on the keyboard), touchscreen, and biometric fingerprint sensor.
