Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand....

To see a World in a Grain of Sand and a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour

The way to go,great unix....

My best canadian friend who is in MSN Search department said she is so optimistic to the tomorrow of the M$,and she believes that the M$ will win the war again in search field against the google.M$ will prevail through one challengers after another as usual.

Actaully I don't think so.Actually I don't agree with her.Yes,indeed, many times,it successfully won the past few wars...But M$ can not always be the king,it can not rule the market all the time...There will be someone defeat the M$ in the future...That is the law of the history, and it is just something of time...So,why google can not be the one?

Thence,I think of the unix against the windows. You know, since the first time I entered the world of CS,I stay in the unix camps...Even the windows has a big share in the personal computers market, specially in china...But without the habit issue, the linux can completely take the place of the windows,so do the FreeBSD or Solaris in server side...I do think the unix/linux will finally win the war. That is my faith, and it is never changed....

What will I do in the rest of the week?

Well,I planed to visit the hongkong disneyland again with my team mates for the team building. Then I arranged everything for them, but thence I was told that I have no buddget to use....

Today I lead the team to sign the contract for the trip, and distribute the air tickets....So all the things are ready now,but what will I do in the rest of the week? Most people will enjoy the trip in Hongkong, meanwhile the office are almostly empty

;-(

There is only one thing I can not just stay alone......

Do NOT ask me why not choose solaris AGAIN!

Don't ask me why not choose solaris AGAIN! And again,I want to say I have no idea but using the linux.

It happened again today, when I got my new dell machine. Its mainboard is Intel 865GV chipset[Brookdale-G] Chipset Integrated with the i810 as the vedio adapter. With the bad experience of the solaris,I checked the HCL for the confirmation. Then I found that the i810 was supported by solaris since the 845G/GL appeared. There is the proof

With that,I was so happy to start my work. The installation was well-off,you know,at that time the graphic interactive installation gave me lots of confidence.I thought this time solaris would give me a good performace,so I installed almost all the things of solaris....whereafter 1.5 hours passed, when the box was ready,I restarted my box, then I was completely gapemouthed for the prompt - the X fail to start....

I think the chipset had been used for quite a long time, maybe more than a year. Many PCs are using this kinda chipset now.But currently, the solaris is not supporting this. The user can not use the desktop even after half a year....

However the linux works well, you know what, the linux, redhat fedora 3,works well in my box!It is the version which is more than 1.5 years old...How can I express my feeling to solaris? The frustrated?the depressed?the upset?

So do not ask me why not choose solaris AGAIN?Yes,it is the king on sparc, but it is not the very choice on the most updated x86 roadsters. The only thing I can say is that maybe you can try them on the weckers....

The day without e-mail SMTP server is down in SCERI...I think we will have a day without e-mail today...Life has changed a lot since my first day came to this e-mail company...without e-mail I found I have nothing to do...Well,anyway,I had a little bit of time to write my blog at noon, meanwhile Lead began to assign the workload by phone...It is so good to hear his voice...Or I should hear the sound of the typing... Once I was on my way to the lunch, the weather is so good in beijing;-)

FreeBSD or Solaris I got fever last few days, and when I was at home, a guy who is from the freebsd.org asked me to have a try on the Freebsd. So I did...And I write some my experience here to share with you... From the installation, the freebsd is direct, but there are many configration work to do.It is not friendly enough to me,this kinda newbie,to BSD,but I think it is simply enough. If you take few time and be a little bit of patient, you will handle it.In this field, the solaris/sparc is perfect for its UI and the smooth installation processes. But solaris/X86 gave me very bed experience before, thence I haven't installed the solaris/x86 again... From the usability, the freebsd orient the server,so the desktop of freebsd, either gnome or kde is not powerful as the jds on solaris by default.CLI is the first choice of the operation enviroment. This strategy have never been changed in FreeBSD till today.Solaris worked like that in the CED age.But while gnome is integrated in the solaris, things changed. Many things belong to the desktop level are in,and the desktop of solaris has been much enhanced when JDS appeared. But to the limited resouces, the more is taken by the desktop, the less is left to the server application. So,where will solaris go?The server or the desktop? That is a problem. If I want a desktop,I prefer the linux. And we did a right thing to develop linux. But I am so confused that why not use KDE in suse linux?Acutally, today, linux can take the place of the windows,if the user is determined. If I want a server,I perfer the BSD.I do not want to desktop take much resouces from the mechine.Even in the case that I want to take both and only pay for one mechine,I still perfer the linux for the good balance between the desktop and server side, though the stability is not better than FreeBSD. When I said some many negative words to solaris in the last section,I still support solaris.Yes,you see the open solaris icon,I am a zealot to it.On and only on sparc,it is the best always! Comments: There are so many useless word here,Well, maybe I havent wrote for a long time...the simple and stupid word is my type....In the end of the article,I find I have somehow departured my original theme...Oh,maybe solaris is lost in the competition, just in my opinion.I do miss the once empire of SUN....

perplexed time... Sometimes, men are enthusiastic, full of energy,passions....and sometimes, men are confused, maybe for no specific reason...yeah,I meet up with my downturn. I think the preplexed time is the very word to describe my feeling and thought in these past days.I wonder what to do,I wonder what will happen...you know, sometime, when you come back from a brainstorming, suddently you would be lost by yourself...you can not find out something that always support you in your hard time.It is really horrible that you can not see the future, the tomorrow, confused about the choices for your life... What's it going on?what is my destiny?Where should I go?I wonder...I wonder...

Reading Device Driver Tutorial It is known to all that the Writing Device Driver is a very famous guide to whom want to develop a device driver for the solaris. But in my opinion,it is not very good for the beginners. It includes all the information about the device driver development....There are too many details, but lack of high level overview. And I do think most beginners want a overview of the framework so that they can set up the basic concept and the principle in their mind. You know,to me,It is really very boring to read that thick book at the entry level. And please don't call me a lazy bone.I am not lazy, just want to be more efficient.docs.sun.com is very good website, where you can find lots of nice books and references. When I was tired of the thick book,I searched 'device driver' to find if there is some book I want.Thence,I got it - "Device Driver Tutorial". So,here is link: Device Driver Tutorial Enjoy:)

Thence overviewing the X86 assembly language of Solaris Yesterday I wrote some feelings about reading the manual of x86 assembly language of solaris.Thence I immediately made up my mind, and then make a schedule of my work in my free time.It is a really aggressive ambitious plan since I graduated from the university. And of course,I will execute it in the free time...You know,as the somewhat traing said - accountability,I should do everything in the free time....I don't affect my daily work. I should foucs from one thing to another...I can not fight in many battlefields...Since my major was Communication Engineering with EE option,I always like to learn something from very basic level. So I think I should learn the architecture of the sparc/x86 first, then the assembly language of sparc and x86.Though there is not many people in china familiar with the sparc, but I should learn it.I should stand up to challenges...That is why I formulated my plan as a ambitous plan...and my tiny dream is to contribute whatever to the freebsd or solairs...I havent decided yet...oh,I dont want to forget linux here:) Therefore there are lots of work to do,thus I may have little time to write the blog anymore....Time is a real luxury to me rather than money...I will dig down deep in my work...time and time agian...when I retrospect the time I was in the training for national electronic design contest...I waked up at seven in the morning, then began to work in the lab at 7:30....spent all day long there with other teammates...and left to dorm in the early morning around 1 am...You may say I am mad or crazy...But I do like that time of my life...Day by day,at that time,I feel nothing but energetic...Everyone should has a dream....Of course, the dream will change if you get it...But you should always has a dream...To me,dream is a hope, dream is invaluable in my life...dream is everything to me....I live for dream...work for dream...and I will die for dream...I believe if we can dream it,we can do it! What is more...I don't know if I will keep up writing my weblog this year or next year...I haven't written some topics which I concerned...like the new sun brand style which lost its origin characters....like the dying JDS which is based on suse linux but integrating a gnome desktop...But why?why not using KDE which is very advanced in suse linux...The gnome desktop is the advantage of redhat linux rather than suse linux! Why did we take some many effort from zero? Why not advance upon titan's shoulder too then.If there is mature technology we can use...many many things of the sun empire...You know,I miss the sun in 20 century which affected me a lot with its enterprise ,go-aheadism and bright individuality...God bless the great empire...Wish you nothing but all the best...

After overviewing the X86 assembly language of Solaris Today,I spent more than 3 hours to read the `x86 assembly language reference guide' very carefully...And got a lot. You know what...I found that the assembly language I learnt and used before is obviously antique and outdated...My knowledge of the x86 assembly language can be compressed into one section of that reference...yeah,its name is the GENERAL purpose...That is to say I have no idea about other sections of the instructions...I am so behind compared with the recent guide...and I will be behind too then.if I am still satisfied with the accumulate of the assembly languge...Really how time files... X86 Instructions Set Mapping - General Purpose - Floating Point - SIMD - MMX - SSE - SSE2

My last working day at Mozilla Team It is with mixed feelings that I write this message down on my weblog today...well,okay..maybe the feeling is complex rather than mixed...I do love this team...where I spent my intern time and my contractor time here...I grew up in the team since my 22nd birthday.... Retrospect the time in mozilla team...lots of funs and pains....I learnt things here...I gave myself entirely to the great open source project,mozilla....You know...I always support the open source...moved by their spirit...I even applied a patch to the mozilla truck in my intern life....I am so proud that I can work for mozilla with the colleagues all of the world in the same dream/aim....And I was there... I still remembered the words my ex-lead said, though he is not at SUN....He gave me a lot..made me better and better...I would say thanks to the everyone in the team...tell them I will miss them...miss the days I shared with them...jessie,helen,patrick,estella,tian,dave,bright,rania,neo and neo, tony and tonyleon,pete,ri....ck,louie...,robin,brian,neo.L,jay,luke,jerry,celvin,henry... That is too many...I think I can not list them all....too many... Today is a day of my last working day at mozilla team....next monday,I will be a newbie in the CNS...that is a new start I think....and a new start in my engineer's life... Anyway...again...I will miss the days shared with you,the mozilla team and the whole desktop@SCERI....
