MySQL (My Ess Que Ell)
As a follow up to previous blog, according to
MySQL Reference Manual
The official way to pronounce "MySQL" is "My Ess Que Ell" (not "my sequel"), but we don't mind if you pronounce it as "my sequel" or in some other localized way.

GNU

Today during lunch, my co-workers and I are having lunch and somebody decided to bring up the topic of Open Source. Then a heated debate came up. As we all probably know, there are different types of Open Source licenses, Apache, BSD, GNU, etc. But we are interested in how to pronounce "GNU". Most of us agree that it should be pronounced "guh-noo", but someone also claim it should be pronounced "noo" with silent "G".

Here is what I found with a little googling:

1.) from http://www.gnu.org/

GNU is a recursive acronym for "GNU's Not UNIX"; it is pronounced guh-noo, like canoe.

2.) from http://www.bartleby.com/61/75/G0167500.html

PRONUNCIATION: noo, nyoo

NOUN: Either of two large African antelopes (Connochaetes gnou or C. taurinus) having a drooping mane and beard, a long tufted tail, and curved horns in both sexes. Also called wildebeest.

So I guess you would say something like "GNU(guh-noo) Emacs" and "African gnu(noo)".

My First Blog
We discussed about blogging during a work meeting today, so I am here to check it out. I don't know what I will be blogging about in the future though.
