One Sun employee's journey This little light of mine

Friday May 23, 2008

My work is selling professional services. My passion is education. I'm amazingly close to being one of those people who "love your job and you'll never work a day in your life."

The Professional Services sales role comprises 3 constituent parts. Consulting services - project work for architecting and implementing a solution; Management Services - on-going activities for managing and maintaining applications, data, systems and datacenters; and finally, Learning services - consulting and delivery of learning services.

It's the learning services side where I see Sun is make GREAT strides and from the Sun offerings to the world, doing GREAT work. Am I positive about this? :)

I suspect that people on the outside of Sun must wonder why it's employees wax poetic about working at Sun? Because in some areas, mostly important ones, Sun gets it. Education is one of those areas. Apple also got it. One can see by the research that a company invests in and how it relates to the worlds this research is intended for.

Xerox and Digital Equipment Corp are two other companies that come to mind when thinking about the contributions that their research has given to the IT world, and therefore the world in general.

In Education, we are at a great shift in how we educate and communicate, and this is very exciting. Sun is very much going down the right path on this one, in my humble opinion.

Here's a shout out to our Global leader on Education, Joe Hartley, who from his blog, also gets it. IMHO.
