While I've been dealing with the theoretical aspects of CO2 emissions, lots has been going on in the real world (as the gamers say). Gill Friend summarizes it all here.

Comments:

Option 4 would surely warm a capitalist's heart. Real action will come from the people more worried about next quarter's results than their grandchildrens' legacy. Look at GE's initiatives. Jeff Immelt is quoted in Forbes admitting, "In its essence it's a way to sell more products and services." Still, there is substance behind it, such as GE's 2005 goal of doubling "Green" revenue from $10B (2004) to $20B (2010). or cutting emissions 1% by 2012. (Which doesn't sound like much until you realize that at current rates, they'd increase by 40%, and the company sells $150 B worth of goods and services.)
