Notes from the Main Sequence: Eric Reid - Sun ISV Engineering

So, you may have seen every Mary and their Uncle talking about Solaris Express and upcoming Solaris 10... there sure is a laundry list of new, innovative, cool stuff in it, and of course I'm using early access versions of it...

But in the past, We At Sun had to say that the next release of Solaris was Momentous... that customers and ISVs could-not-do-without-it, and that our kids would starve if you didn't... just.. please... install it!...

I like it that, in comparison, I'm totally jazzed about Solaris 10... truly, as an employee and as a Nerd(TM)... why?

• The TCP/IP stack has been reworked the right way, and really screams now64-bit support on Opteron... I'm salivating
• Dynamic Tracing... life will get better for me, my ISVs, and a whole lot of Solaris developers out there!

There are a lot more Cool Things, but those three get me more entralled about an OE than I've been in a long time... and, kiddies, I cut my teeth on TOPS-10 on a DECsystem10.... you do the math!
