GPS Update
Last night I was able to fill up my 2Gb microSD flash memory card with map data for the GPS. I got all of the US City Navigator maps plus most of the Topo maps for California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho. The 2Gb card will actually hold only 1945Mb. This is a huge improvement over the paltry 58Mb that is available on the default 64Mb flash card. It was
barely able to hold just the City maps for Southern California.
I started the map indexing and download at 7:30pm. By 11:30pm only one third of the indexing had been completed and the computer was predicting another 5.5 hours to go! I let it run all night and it was completed by morning. Hopefully I won't ever have to do this again.
Once the maps were on the flash card I was able to switch between the City and Topo maps from the Maps Menu information icon. From there you can get a submenu that will let you show or hide either the City or Topo maps. The Topo maps are not at all useful for driving! There is no routing information or road intersection information. Likewise the City maps have no contour or geographic feature information. It is sure good to have both.
