OK, be prepared for a bit of a rant on the evacuation situation.

This is getting ridiculous. We still cannot get back home in Ramona due to the lack of water. There is absolutely no danger from the fires anymore. All of the other evacuated communities have opened up, and we now have been away from home for 5 days!

Today we took a drive into Poway to see how far we could get towards Ramona. We went up Scripps Poway Parkway around noon. We got to HWY 67 and headed north but were stopped at Poway Rd. There were probably a dozen vehicles in front of us all trying to get through. We were turned around and had to come back into Poway. We stopped at the store and did another round of grocery shopping to get us through a few more days. There was no word on when we might be able to return home.

Here is an MS doc file describing the need for the continued evacuation of the Ramona area. Notice the fact that this message comes not from the RMWD, but from the County of San Diego. I must say that this is a major screw up on the part of the Ramona Municipal Water District. Go ahead and check their web page. Absolutely no information on the water crisis whatsoever! This is pure bush league, small town incompetence. I heard an interview on the radio with our SD County Supervisor Diane Jacob and she completely laid blame on the continued evacuation at the hands of the RMWD and their refusal back on Monday to make the request for mutual aid in keeping the water system running during the firestorm crisis.

The news also mentioned that there were now hundreds of cars lined up on HWY 67 trying to get into Ramona and that the situation was getting pretty ugly. There are plenty of people in the Ramona area that get their water from wells, and not the RMWD. Why can't they go back? Rumor has it that water supply trucks and port-a-potties are on their way and will have to be there before we can get let back into town.

Looks like we will be spending another night here in the SD campus parking lot... I guess I'll refill the RV with water (and take a shower) before we even think about heading home.
