We spent an enjoyable 4 days at the Silver Strand State Beach in Coronado for our big summer vacation. No long roadtrip this year. Instead a short 50 mile drive down to the beach. Our camping spot was rather tight as you can see in this picture below. The campground is basically a parking lot and we were literally inches from our neighbors.

No wide open spaces here! Surprisingly the campground during midweek was not completely full. The campground has Wifi, so maybe next time I'll bring the laptop and work from the beach for a few days. Our friends were also camping there and he went off to work everyday and returned in the evening. Our two oldest kids had band camp and they weren't able to stay the entire time. My wife's sister and her family were vacationing in San Diego so they came down Monday night and joined us for dinner and a late afternoon swim.

The weather was perfect (as usual in San Diego). Warm and breezy during the day and just a bit cooler at night. I went out into the surf for about an hour each afternoon with my boogie board and rode the waves (fairly tame at 1-3 feet). The water temperature was nice and warm at 74F. You could be out in the water all day and not get cold.

We were there during a new moon and supposedly there was a grunion run. We went out at high tide around midnight on Tuesday and searched up and down the beach but didn't see any grunion.

We did get to see some beautiful sunsets!
