Got up early (again) and headed down to the Darling Harbour area where the Sydney Convention Centre is located. It is about a 25 minute walk from the hotel, maybe a mile and a half. The Darling Harbour area is set up very nicely with lots of restaurants, a mall, several museums and the Aquarium all along the edge of the harbor.

I got there at 7:30am, got checked in and had some breakfast. The Keynote was given by James Gosling. He talked for about an hour and then there were a couple of other speakers and some demos.

James Gosling giving the Keynote.

I attended the Solaris track presentations in the morning. First up was a presentation by Chris Armes on what makes Solaris Interesting. The next presentation was on Security features in Solaris. After a box lunch we attended more presentations on Solaris Virtualization and xVM Ops Center. After another break we saw presentations on SMF and MySQL/PostgreSQL. The last presentation was heavy on database lingo and I claim no understanding whatsoever on databases.

After all of these sessions was a Welcome Reception where we were given more food and drinks. I took an enjoyable walk back to the hotel in the warm evening and called it an early night.

Hey,

Thanks for your update on Sun Tech Days at Australia. I see a lot of goodies on the table in the snap of James Gosling's keynote. Did you get one of those?:-)

I wish you have a very productive time during the Sun Tech Days 2008 at Australia.
