This morning I got up at 6am, instead of the usual 5am. Maybe I'm finally getting used to Australian time. I got my running shoes on and headed out on a long run before the day began. I ran down to Hyde Park, over to the Botanical Gardens and watched the sunrise. I headed around the park over to the Opera House and took lots of pictures in the morning light.

Opera House in the morning light.

After my run I headed back over to the Sun Sydney office to check email. I left there with just enough time to make the Keynote and Welcome at the Convention Centre for Day 2 of Sun Tech Days. I managed to catch one of the squishy "Duke" toys that was thrown into the audience during the talent contest for the Java Jacket giveaway.

I attended the Solaris Track presentations for the day and learned about ZFS and Testing on OpenSolaris. During the lunch break I walked over to the Maritime Museum and checked out the exhibits there. The have several ships you can pay to go on, but the rest of the museum is free. They have a replica of Captain Cook's Endeavour, a submarine and other military vessels.

The afternoon sessions in the Solaris Track were pretty heavy on the technical side. Lots of coding examples on how to develop parallel applications on Solaris and there was also an introduction to using the Sun Grid Engine. That pretty much wraps up the formal Sun Tech Days. Tomorrow is the Open Solaris Community Event Day.

Darling Harbour at night.

Hey Glenn! You'll have to email me your address and I'll make sure Susan has it when the Danford gang meets again.
