My wife got me and my son tickets to the Supercross race at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium for my birthday. We also had free pit passes, so we got there fairly early and wandered among the masses in the pit area before the races started. Got to briefly see Ricky Carmichael and Jeremy McGrath signing autographs, but the lines were really long.

My cousin is a journalist and we managed to meet up with him prior to the races. He was there to take pictures. He was right down on the track during the races! Our seats were pretty good and the races were exciting.

The final race had Ricky Carmichael leading from the start and James Stewart keeping pace with him for the first 18 of 20 laps. These 2 guys were clearly the class of the field. They started to lap the back-markers by the 5th lap! And this race was composed of the winners of the various pre-race heats - supposedly just the fastest riders. At lap 18 James cut in low and managed to get past Ricky. He held him off for the last lap to take the win.

Count me in for next year's Supercross race. I've been to many auto races in the last 20 years; Formula 1, Champ Car, Nascar, Sports cars, etc. This was one of the best events I've attended. No wonder it was completely sold out.
