It's Friday, the end of the week, and time for another edition of Friday Blues Blogging. This time, sit back and enjoy Buddy Guy work out on First Time I Met the Blues. That's the great Dave Meyers on bass, by the way.

A return to Friday Blues Blogging, after a many months' sabbatical. Today's edition: Lightning Hopkins doing his version of Baby Please Don't Go. Enjoy.

Take a break for some blues. Blind Willie Johnson's "Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground." Chilling.

Note: The first pic that comes up is not Blind Willie Johnson, but Blind Willie McTell.

I'd like to take this Friday's edition of Friday Blues Blogging to remember my good friend and bass playing companion, Walter Chase, who died Sunday, January 20, after a year and half long bout with cancer. As this article points out, Walter was a musician who would play for any cause. Walter, I know you are in a better place now. Here's a little sumthin' for you.

I'm a little groggy this morning after attending the Reverend Horton Heat extravaganza last night in Colorado Springs at the Black Sheep. The man puts on an awesome show. Here he is doing Big Sky, which he opened with last night:

The Rev also laid into some great covers, including Folsom Prison Blues (Johnny Cash), Ace of Spaces (Motorhead), and Paranoid (Black Sabbath). Talk about covering a lot of musical ground.

This week's edition of Friday Blues Blogging features none other than myself, and my band, live from 2005, working out on Clarence Gatemouth Brown's seminal boogie-woogie hit, Okie Dokie Stomp.

That's me on the head up until 2:07, my guitar playing brother madman Little Robbie Graham takes over until 5:49, and then that's me again taking it home. (File size is a bit over 7 MB, so be patient on the download.)

Blue Shadows, as performed by Anson and the Rockets, with Sam Meyers on vocals. How appropriate, now that we have a new quarter and Sun has announced this.

This week's episode of Friday Blues Blogging finds Jimmy Vaughan getting all political on us:

Most blues guitar players I knew from the 80's wanted to be Jimmy. I probably learned every lick off the T-birds first album, Girls Go Wild, in my Jimmy wannabe phase.

Magic Sam Maghett, working out on two tunes recorded at the American Heritage Blues Fest in England in the 60's.

Sam died of a heart attack at the age of 32. Had he lived longer, his music would have only gotten stronger.
