Friday May 15, 2009Tuesday May 12, 2009A new minor update to the 2008.Q2 software has been posted. This includes several fixes, including a fix that addresses incomplete resilvering with RAID-Z storage pools. All users with single- or double-parity RAID storage pools, clustered 7410 systems, or CIFS installations are encouraged to upgrade to this release as soon as possible. Complete release notes can be found here. A new micro update to the 2008.Q4 (formerly "1.0.x") software has been posted. This includes a fix that addresses incomplete resilvering when replacing disks within a RAID stripe. All users with single- or double-parity RAID storage pools that have not yet switched to the 2009.Q2 release are strongly encouraged to upgrade to this release as soon as possible. Data is properly resilvered during a scrub, so you can also scrub your storage pool if you have replaced a disk. Complete release notes can be found here. Monday May 04, 2009Last week we quietly released an updated version of the 7110, the entry-level model in the 7000 series product lineup. The image below shows the two versions of the 7110 now available.
Can't tell the difference? The 7110 on the left is the original 2TB version while the new model on the right has 4.2TB raw capacity. In the new version we've replaced the 146GB 10K RPM SAS drives with a 300GB model, thus doubling the storage (plus a bit). Both are available on sun.com; take a look. Monday Apr 27, 2009The first major Sun Storage 7000 series software update, known as "2009.Q2", is now available at the Sun Download Center. You can find the complete release notes here. Tuesday Jan 13, 2009As the throngs of screaming brendan fans beginning to fade outside Fishworks headquarters, we are happy to announce the first software update for the 7110, 7210, and 7410. See Cindi's blog for more details. Thursday Nov 20, 2008New tools are now available for storage administrators considering the 7410, in addition to the much-heralded appliance simulator VM: The Sun Storage 7410 Power Calculator, which allows you to spec out your system, (including JBODs), and determine its active idle and sample power consumption based on estimated workload. Adam has created a space calculator for use with the VM, to help determine how much usable capacity is delivered for a given RAID level, number of JBODs, and any Logzilla devices on 7410-based systems. |
