Given the rumors, I just wanted to say a few things. Here's what I have communicated to my team.
"Team,
At the time of writing, the possibility of a IBM merger with Sun is just a rumor. So I will not comment on it other than to say the following:
- We are the NEP/OEM Sales Group in Sun
- We have been growing and we are optimistic about the future
- It is a BIG profitable business
- We are bigger and better than our competition in this space
- We will execute against our plan - reductions, market strategy (NEP & OEM), community, services, solutions and client engagement
- We will get very smart on communications using internal and external social networking
Doing the above in a even more professional and focused way will help us NO matter what is ahead. Together we will win.
Darrell"

This is a pure demagogic message, nothing inside except contradictions...
How can you in the same sentence :
"We will execute against our plan - reductions, market strategy (NEP & OEM), community, services, solutions and client engagement"
speak about reductions and solutions, everybody knows Sun has none, except those of its partners, and these partners are shifting.
then you say "We will get very smart on communications using internal and external social networking"
That's very poor to think that social networking will replace real people doing real work, that's a true dream. Just like changing SUNW to JAVA or reverse stock split x4 did not cure anything.
What Sun needs and the NEP group as well is focus on key products, web based ordering even for complex configurations !!!
and less bla bla bla.
