We could see the Indian OpenOffice community in action on Day 2. Community members did some presentations. Sun engineers got a chance to interact with them. It was just great. Although the community is still young with few members, there is huge interest among those who attended and asked questions.
I got a chance to interact with:
- Srimal, an executive from Srilankan Government. He was interested in getting Openoffice localized.
- A gentleman (sorry, I am unable to recall his name) from Synovel Software, Hyderabad. Synovel is open source technology startup. They are working on a "desktop suite" and wondering how to have OpenOffice integrated with their suite.
- Jaganadh, a linguist from C-DAC. Jaganadh was a speaker and he talked about several aspects of translation. Jaganadh was a great speaker, and his talk was much appreciated.
For these passionate community members, FOSS.IN OpenOffice project day provided a great platform to enthuse others to join their community.
Speakers from the community
Besides Sankarshan, we had three more community speakers:
- Kartik Mistry from Magnet Technologies Pvt Ltd. Kartik talked about OpenOffice.org: Building Dictionary and spellchecker
- Rajesh Sola from NBKR Institute Of Science & Technology. Rajesh talked about VBA Macros - Interoperability
- And of course, Jaganadh.G from C-DAC. Jaganadh talked about Linguistic Localization Frame Work for OOo
OpenOffice is waiting for your contributions. And we have the OpenOffice stalwarts from Sun - Louis Suarez-Potts, Juergen Schmidt, Frank Peters, Michael Bemmer right here in Bangalore.
So, what are you waiting for? Come to the Sun booth and ask to speak with these gentlemen if you cannot identify them yourself.
Hi,
I am the person from Synovel Software wondering about the same. I am more particularly wondering about what is the path that openoffice and the Thunderbird compatibility are taking? What are the plans there and what is the progress thus far?
