The Tactical Technology Collective is an international NGO working at the intersection of advocacy and technology. I am a big fan of their work and have had the pleasure of meeting via phone and in person with Tactical Tech co-founder, Marek Tuszynski. Each time I connect with Tactical Tech I learn about some new and exciting project that they are working on. Their work helps to inspire and motivate my own.

Today I received an email announcing the release of Visualizing Information: An Introduction to Information Design a manual aimed at helping NGOs and advocates strengthen their campaigns and projects through communicating vital information with greater impact. This project aims to raise awareness, introduce concepts, and promote good practice in information design – a powerful tool for advocacy, outreach, research, organization and education.

I like how this guide does a great job of describing not only the basics of visual design but also provides compelling examples. A great companion piece to this guide is a book I read last year in one of my B-school courses, the Visual Display of Quantitative Information by Edward Tufte

Having spent a few hours last night meeting with a non-profit marketing committee I am involved with, I can speak first hand to the importance of empowering NGOs with these types of tools in an effort to help make mission driven messaging stand out among the ever increasing amounts of  information, media and advertising generated.

Thank you Tactical Tech for all the great work you do!!!

Dan,
Thanks for the tip! As the Communications Director for our small international non-profit, I am always trying to find new ways to celebrate and communicate our work and results. Bring on the visuals!
