Sun continually moves forward with global efforts to eliminate the digital divide, and this week Sun India is making great strides in the right direction.

Sun India initiated a contest to give students an opportunity to contribute to the technologies that are empowering the participation age.  The contest, Code for Freedom, began on August 15th 2007  in commemoration of India's 60 years of independence.  Just as India initiated it's journey to freedom 60 years ago, Sun Microsystems is inviting the young, dynamic academic community of India to join the journey towards an exciting industry of Open Source with limitless opportunities.

The contest will run until February 2008 and invites students to make contributions in five open source projects: OpenSolaris, NetBeans, Project GlassFish, Java DB (Apache Derby) and OpenPortal. Students will be exposed to the design and architecture of these products, as well as become a part of the developer networks of these technologies.
