On Thursday, August 16th a BBQ celebration was thrown in honor of the employees on Sun's Broomfield campus. Not only did employees watch their colleagues show off their hidden talents in a competition, but in addition to the entertainment, Sun employees were invited to enjoy a free barbecue lunch, and the opportunity to share their success with the community.
Sun, on a company level as well as on an individual level, understands and recognizes the importance of investing in the health and education of our future generations. This is why Sun's Broomfield employees donated over $650, and Sun will match their employee's contributions and donate over $1,300 to the Community Food Share organization.
Sun's donation is supporting the Feed the Future program which provides groceries (each week) to 400 elementary school children that attend Columbine Elementary School in Longmont, CO. Every Friday students who have had perfect attendance or an excused absence for that week recieve a 5-6 pound bag of groceries to take home. Feedback from both students and parents have been very enthusiastic and supportive. Students feel they are contributing to their family's well-being, and are encouraged to stay in school and invest in their own future.
Since the implementation of the program,
Community Food Share reports that attendance has been near-perfect-
99%. This means the children are in the classroom more, better able to
learn, and are eating regularly. With the high attendance each week, school staff know that the students are being fed at home through the feed the future program, as well as at school since 80-90% of students are
also qualified to eat breakfast and lunch at school through Colorado's free and reduced lunch program.
