After the Harvest ... in Artistry

The hues of blue and gold in "After the Harvest" remind me of Provence. Clouds racing to blot out the sun, fields shimmering in gold as they ache for the daylight, shadows threaten to overtake all.

Now that is a boulder! ... in Ramblings

I saw this picture of a 25' high boulder that was blocking a road in Southern California. Its hard to believe that thing is real!

Storms furrowed my brow ... in Poetry

Valentine's Day draws near (so reminded by all the candy-filled hearts at the supermarket), and that means I need to come up with a poem for my wife. I have one brewing, and I keep reworking it in my head. Anyways ... the constant storms in the Bay Area tend to create some fantastic cloud scapes for my Dumbarton Bridge commute. There's plenty of inspiration there ...

Storms furrowed my brow
and I dreamed of writing you a poem
that would tear holes in the clouds
to let the sunbeams of my affection shine through
but you simply smiled
and waved your hand
an affectionate dismissal my brooding
"i'd rather have your skies clear and delicous blue
they are so much prettier that way"
for a few moments, or maybe a day or two, I forgot my name
I was off looking for the sunshine, and a place to store my clouds ...
Song of the Day ... in Music

I'm going to go with "Lids" from Salt. Their lyrics aren't that strong, but their music more than makes up for it.

"Your voice is here
Your voice is clear
Don't wish to hear it now
Don't wish to hear it now

Do you wish to stay
to close those tired lids

A fool is reaching
The dressed one is scared
I can't see through that now
I can't see through that now"

Fringe Bands ... in Music

Well I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting music. I can spend hours reading through the reviews at Amazon, and just cruise through recommendations. The best finds are the not so well known bands. Too bad they lost the CDNOW feature of being able to see what the individual members of the bands were up to. Anyway here's an initial list of groups you probably won't hear on the radio (well at least in the Bay Area):
