Something Wonderful This Way Comes ... in Life

Flag of China So we're off to China to meet daughter #2. She's in an orphanage in Qianjiang, which is in the Chongqing province. We'll be meeting her in the city of Chongqing. Never heard of Chongqing? Then you would be surprised that the mountanous city has a population of over 3 million people.

We've been busy with preparation for the trip as well as getting the house ready. Daughter #1 is excited as well. She's not quite sure what having a sister will mean to her, but she's got a whole list of things that she's going to teach her. I'm not quite sure what's on the list, but I'm hoping that most of them are good things.

It's a wonderful, crazy chaotic time. I'm not quite sure how to describe what I'm going through, so I've pulled a quote from my journal of our first journey. I think it sums up the moment quite nicely. See you again in a few weeks. waving emoticon

"And there you were, smiling and instantly breaking our hearts. There are those special unforgettable moments when everything stops, the sounds fades, and everything else besides your focal point blurs and recedes. It's a moment when your life changes, and you are aware that your life has changed - different in some unmeasurable way. When I saw that picture for the first time, I had one of those moments. Your name echoed in my head, rattled my world and squeezed my heart. Suddenly, I was a father. And a portion of my heart that I never knew existed sputtered and sparked to life. We had been waiting for you for so long and now you were here - prettier and lovelier then we could have ever imagined."
Those Special Moments ... part II ... in Parenting

My 3 year old daughter, upon seeing a bruise on my arm, and in a very serious tone, asked me "Dude, what happened to your arm?"

Song of the Day ... in Music

Skeletons around a table Since I'm not going to be around for Halloween, I figure I choose a song for the occasion. Ministry's "Halloween" is perfect I would say. A rebel song for those who would rather celebrate their difference from the norm, rather than hide in shame. Remember, they are not the absurd ones.

"Well I live with snakes and lizards
And other things that go bump in the night
Cos to me everyday is halloween
I have given up hiding and started to fight
I have started to fight ...

well any time,
Any place, anywhere that I go all the
People seem to stop and stare they say
’Why are you dressed like it’s halloween?
You look so absurd, you look so obscene!’

Oh! why can’t I live a life for me?
Why should I take the abuse that’s served?
Why can’t they see they’re just like me?
It’s the same, it’s the same in the whole wide world

Well I let their teeny minds think that they’re
Dealing with someone who is over the brink and
I dress this way just to keep them at bay
Cos halloween is everyday ... it’s everyday, oh!

Why can’t I live a life for me?
Why should I take the abuse that’s served?
Why can’t they see they’re just like me?
It’s the same, it’s the same in the whole wide world

Oh!, why can’t I live a life for me?
Why should I take the abuse that’s served?
Why can’t they see they’re just like me
I’m not the one that’s so absurd!
Why hide it?

Why fight it? hurt feelings best to stop feeling
Hurt from denials, reprisals
It’s the same It’s the same in the whole wide world"
