New blogs.sun.com Servers: Sun Fire T2000s ... in Work

New blogs.sun.com server : Sun Fire T2000 Server

As you can see, blogs.sun.com is now running on a pair of Sun Fire T2000 servers. They are very nice machines indeed. You can read more about my hands on experience with the T2000s in a previous post.

Jonathan has blogged about it. Martin has blogged about it. Will has blogged about it. And Tim Bray has blogged about it. The 60-day freel trial has been improved, and customers are getting their machines in a timely manner. During a recent trip to our datacenter, I noticed someone lugging around the boxes. "You doing the try and buy on the T2000's? What did you think?" I asked. He immediately broke into a huge grin and replied "We love them. Fantastic boxes." Unfortunately I was laden down with equipment as well so I couldn't hang out and chat more. But it was good to hear that feedback. happy dance emoticon

Once the new machines have been in for a bit it would be great if you could post some utilization/throughput numbers comparing the T2000 machines with your previous servers.

I tried to use NetCraft to confirm your statement. I couldn't. I realize that there is more to blogs.sun.com than the NetCraft "eye" can see... They aren't Sauron after all.

But, folks will want to verify this. Is there some channel that we could use to expose this, that folks would trust?

What don't trust me? :) I actually helped install the machines at the datacenter. The two are configured in a loadbalancing scheme, but they are buried behind firewalls and whatnot.

It would be great if you would share your experiences on SunFire Fanatatics I've created it so people doing evals can have a place to talk and discuss how to get their benchmarks working.. having an expert like you on board will surely help the newbies there

I am considering using two T2000's in a load-balanced configuration also. How are you doing the load-balancing?
