OpenSource Globalization (G11N)

My blog's worth...

Tuesday Mar 20, 2007

A colleague forwarded me this interesting site that tells me how much my blog site is worth. I thought I'd try, but didn't think I'd publish the result. I expected to see 25 cents, maybe a dollar... Not too bad:

My blog is worth $2,258.16.
How much is your blog worth?

Introducing Sun Globalization blog site

Thursday Jun 15, 2006

Introduction

I set up this blog site over a month ago, thinking that I'd write cool stuff about Sun's open source localization. Few people at Sun write about localization, I thought. However, in the lack of skill and experience, and fear that I can't follow up on a regular basis, I hadn't written anything. Then one day, it occurred to me that I don't have to write alone.

So here it comes. This is a group blog site for Sun Globalization (G11n). We have folks working on various open source projects in many shapes and forms, mainly in localization (l10n) and internationalization (i18n) communities. Hopefully, you will see more than my postings here in near future.

By the way, I was pleasantly surprised at a search result the other day. People do write about localization. :-)

Little about me

I've been at Sun Globalization for 7 years. I'm working on open sourcing existing Solaris translations on OpenSolaris.org and am part of the OS.o I18n community. Prior to this, I participated in OpenOffice.org l10n and QA communities, and still do occasionally. Other than that, I'm a lover of chocolates, classical piano music, and men's a cappella, and I'm a wannabe tennis player. By the way, my name is Young Joo Song. I almost forgot that this is a group blog site. :-)

Happy Birthday, OpenSolaris.org!

OpenSolaris is a year old... since yesterday. We just uploaded more translations for ON (OS/Net) message files. They're available through G11n Download Center and the Source Browser.

There aren't too many messages to translate -at least for now anyway-, but we have a lot more to do in the I18n community. From translating websites and documentation, to making the community known, so that we can make OpenSolaris speak many more languages than English. Meet us in the discussion list!
