In India, we were thinking of how can we capture our CAs efforts in a
nut shell. Then IPG team stood up and told me we can design a newsletter
and publish. Thanks to Geetha who heads IPG team in India and her team
members Chinmayee and Rahim, put lot of effort in putting this together.
Thanks a lot to make this happen.
This'll be made available in http://in.sun.com/univ website, please let

PSG Tech, Coimbatore faculty training
Its my great pleasure that our campus ambassadors Prashanth from AKCE
Madurai, Krithika from TCE Madurai and Ramya from BannariAmman,
delivered a faculty training at PSG Tech, Coimbatore sponsored by AICTE.
This is about 15 days program and we participated in one day
event(threee days activities, see below for details). The training was
attended by 25 faculties from 15 engineering colleges from TN and Kerala.
The amazing part was that they were shocked when our CAs told them that
"we are students representing Sun Microsystems" . They were enjoyed all
the sessions. Interesting thing was that faculties are from multi
disciplinary domains from engineering colleges and this was organized by
PSG to create an awareness about open source technologies.
Prashanth had setup a 3D desktop using compiz with opensolaris build 64,
after looking at the features and usability in opensolaris, faculties
wanted to use sun studio, netbeans and of course open solaris.
Before delivering the sessions to faculties on July 2nd, our CAs
conducted sessions on Sun technologies to M.Tech and B.Tech students on
weekend, please see the schedule below for details. After looking at the
level of expertise of these CAs, faculties from PSG invited them for
delivering a guest lecture sessions on sun technologies.
This is one more feather to the accomplishments from CA program in India.

Trip to Madurai
Visit to Madurai :
I've visited the following during my visit to Madurai.
* AKCE University
* TCE, campus
* Fatima college
As per request from Pratima, SLS sales manager that I should be the speaker at Fatima college, Madurai to talk about "open source technologies". I accepted her request and decided to go to Madurai on April 1st by Bus as I didn't have the connecting flight to Madurai. I reached Madurai in the morning 7:30AM, car was waiting for me. I went to the hotel and quickly had my breakfast and headed towards AKCE. AKCE is away from Madurai around 65kms from the city. We have campus ambassador, Prashanth A and wanted to meet him as well as to faculties to talk about curriculum adoption.
I reached AKCE around 9:30AM and met Mr. Sudhakar, director(corporate relations). He showed me network security lab and spoke about TIFAC-core intitiaves. Later Prashanth and others took me around the campus. They have huge infrastructure setup, the entire campus runs on sun fire 4800. They have dedicated lab for conducting SCJP and solaris administration courses. Also they have sunray clients which are made compulsory to the students for internet access.
Later I went to Vice Chancellor's office. There I met vice chancellor Dr. C Thangaraj and directors of academics and so on. I made a presentation to them about sun india university programs and spoke about curriculum adoption. They are very eager to adopt sun technologies into their curriculum and als they spoke about adding sun member into their advisory body. After that I had a quick meeting with Prashanth and Mr. Sudhakar, coroporate relations discussed about our next plan of action.
It was around 11:30AM and left AKCE rushing towards TCE, Madurai.
Exactly at 12:35PM I reached TCE and had a meeting with HODs of CS, IT and MCA along with faculties. I gave the excellent achiever award to Krithika, our campus ambassador. I spoke about sun india university programs and discussed couple of things about
* mentoring to student projects,
* collaborative research,
* guidance to the faculties
* faculty training
* guest lectures/tech day and so on.
After that Krithika and the team explained to me about TCEnet project and also about netbeans project. By that time its around 2PM. I was about to rush to Fatima college and got a call that my session is schedulled at 3PM. That means I had 60 more minutes to spend.
Quickly had a lunch and later met Principal Dr. V Abhaikumar, who is very helpful in all aspects. We spoke about curriculum adoption and other engagements with TCE. He was very excited. Later I saw the computing lab and left TCE.
Reached Fatima college at 3:20PM and started my presentation on "open source and Sun". Audience were faculties from various science colleges in and around Madurai.
Started my presentation by showing sun video and showed my presentation using odp format on opensolaris platform, by the introduction of opensource products being used during my presentation, all are amazed with the features and the technological innovation from Sun. It was nice interaction with the faculties. At the end of my presentation, I met Principal and discussed about sun academic initiative and sun India university programme. Principal agreed to setup a sun lab and also spoke about curriculum adoption.
I had very little time as I've to reach airport before 6PM as my flight was schedulled to departure at 7PM. Finally I reached airport in time.
All in all it was a great trip to Madurai.
